Photo-developable photographic silver halide emulsions contain silver halide which is more than 50 mole per cent silver bromide to which a water-soluble iodide has been added, cadmium bromide or lead bromide, a gold salt and a halogen acceptor. A merocyanine sensitizing dye may also be present. The lead bromide may be formed in the emulsion in situ. The gold salt may be auric chloride or potassium chloroaurate. The silver halide may be of the internal latent image type. The water-soluble iodide may be ammonium, calcium, lithium, magnesium, potassium or sodium iodide. The halogen acceptor may be imidazoline-2-thione. |
