abstract 1,250,626. Acridone dyestuffs. CIBAGEIGY A.G. 18 Oct., 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 49457/68. Heading C4P. [Also in Division C2] Novel dyestuffs of the formula (in which n is a positive integer, one X is NO 2 , CN or -SO 2 Z wherein Z is the residue of a primary or secondary organic amine in which R and R 1 each represents a non-halogenated alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical that may be substituted or in which R and R 1 together form a ring and the other X is H or NO 2 , and one Y is H and the other H, halogen or -SO 2 Z, and at least one of X and Y is -SO 2 Z) are prepared by ring closure of compounds of the formula or by halogenation and ring closure followed by amidation of compounds of the formula wherein X<SP>1</SP> and Y<SP>1</SP> have the meanings given above for X and Y except that -SO 3 H replaces -SO 2 Z in these meanings. Halogenation and ring closure may be effected, for example, with chlorine, phosphorus oxychloride or pentachloride, thionyl chloride or chlorosulphonic acid. The dyestuffs are particularly useful for colouring cellulose acetate in greenish shades.
