titleOfInvention | Preparation of rhodium complexes |
abstract | 1,249,303. Rhodium complexes, BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 30 Jan., 1969 [7 Feb., 1968], No. 6112/68. Heading C2C. Rhodium complexes are prepared by reaction of a rhodium carbonyl carboxylate with a reagent containing at least one active hydrogen atom, which is a #-diketone, such as acetylacetone, dibenzoylmethane, benzoylacetone, dipivaloylmethane, diisobutyrylmethane, trifluoroacetylacetone, hexafluoroacetylacetone, 3 - allyl - 2,4 - pentanedione or other 3-substituted 2,4-pentanediones, or benzoyltrifluoroacetone, or a Schiff's base of a #- diketone, e.g. a #-ketoimine having the general formula RCOCHR<SP>1</SP>C=NR<SP>111</SP>R<SP>11</SP>, wherein R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> may be any aliphatic or aromatic groups and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> may also be hydrogen. The rhodium carbonyl carboxylate is preferably of the general formula wherein R is an aliphatic, aryl-substituted aliphatic, aromatic or alkyl-substituted aromatic group. One carbonyl ligand of the product may be replaced by a neutral complexing ligand, which is preferably a tertiary phosphine, such as triethylphosphine, tri-n-propylphosphine, tri-n-butylphosphine or tri-n-octylphosphine, by treating a solution of the product containing a carbonyl ligand in an inert solvent with a neutral complexing ligand or a solution thereof. |
