[Also in Division C2] A synthetic detergent bar is formed from a mixture of hydrogenated olefin sulphonates prepared by sulphonating a mixture of straightchain olefins having from 10 to 24 carbon atoms with SO 3 and subjecting the resulting sulphonated olefins to the following steps in any desired sequence: (a) treatment with an oxidizing agent in a quantity sufficient to provide at least 0À05 part of oxygen or an equivalent oxidizing amount of another oxidizing agent per 100 parts of sulphonated olefins, and hydrogenating the resulting treated sulphonated olefins until a major portion of the -C=C- bonds are saturated, (b) hydrolysis, and (c) neutralization. |
