abstract | 1,246,527. Waterproofing textiles. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 22 Oct., 1969 [1 Nov., 1968], No. 51867/69. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C2] Textiles, e.g. cotton, are oil and waterproofed by treatment with a compound of formula (CFR 1 R 2 ) 2 CFO(CF 2 ), (CZ 1 Z 2 CZ 3 Z 4 ) m (CX 1 X2-CX 3 X 4 ) n (CH 2 ) p OCO (CH 2 ) q Q+X<SP>-</SP> wherein each of R 1 and R 2 is a fluorine or chlorine atom or a perfluoroalkyl group, or two of the groups R 1 and R 2 form a perfluoroalkylene group, not more than one of the R 1 and R 2 groups attached to the same carbon atom being a chlorine atom, each of Z 1 to Z 4 is a hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine atom, not more than two being chlorine atoms, each of X 1 to X 4 is a hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine atom, not more than one being a chlorine atom, r is 1 or 2, each of m and n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 75, m + n being 0 to 75, p is 0 or 1, with the proviso that when p is 0, n is at least one and X 3 and X 4 are hydrogen atoms, q is an integer from 1 to 4, Q is a radical from the nitrogen atom of a tertiary nitrogenous base and X is a halogen atom. The salt may be applied in solution by padding, dipping, spraying or brushing, followed by squeezing or wringing and then by heat-setting. |
