A shaft packing comprises a sealing ring 1 for making sealing engagement with a rotary member 8, a diaphragm 2 having an inner portion 2b surrounding a rearward extension la of the ring and an outer portion received in a cavity between first and second case members 5, 3, and a coil compression spring 6 having a forward end 6b arranged behind the inner portion of the diaphragm and a rearward end 6a received by the second case member, the diaphragm having a flexible intermediate portion 2c which is supported by a part 3b of the second case member when the fluid pressure P is of a certain magnitude. Rotation of the sealing ring 1 is prevented by projections 1g co-operating with notches or recesses in the first case member 5. If desired, the rear of the first case member 5 may be provided with lugs which can be bent over the second case member 3. |
