titleOfInvention | Stabilized polyol containing mixtures |
abstract | 1,245,278. Stabilized polyol compositions; polyurethane foams. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 25 Oct., 1968, No. 50756/68. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C4] A stabilized composition suitable for use in preparing polyurethane foams comprises a mixture of a polyol and a halocarbon or halohydrocarbon, which mixture normally tends to deteriorate because of the interaction of its components and, as a stabilizer therefor, an effective amount of a non-terminal alkylene oxide. The polyol may be a simple glycol, polyoxyalkylene glycol or a polyol made by the oxyalkylation of an initiator having a multiplicity of reactive hydrogens. Exemplified polyols are a mixture of a propylene oxide/ sucrose reaction product and an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide/ethylene diamine reaction product. The exemplified halocarbon is CFCl 3 . Examples of suitable non-terminal alkylene oxides are 2,3-butylene oxide; 2,3- amylene oxide; 2-methyl-2,3-butylene oxide; 2,3 - dimethyl - 2,3 - butylene oxide; 2,3 - and 3,4 - hexene oxides; 2,3 -, 3,4 - and 4,5- octene oxides, 2,4,4-trimethyl-2,3-amylene oxide and 2,3-, 3,4-, 4,5- and 5,6-dodecene oxides. The alkylene oxides may be used in combination with phenothiazine. The alkylene oxide is suitably used in an amount of at least 0À1% by weight of the composition. |
