1,244,918. Indane derivatives. F.HOFFMANLA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 2 Oct., 1969 [4 Oct. 1968], No. 48383/69. Headings C2C and C2U. The invention comprises compounds of the Formula I and III wherein R 4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, Z is a carbonyl, lower alkylene C 1-6 - dioxymethylene or a CH(OR 2 ) radical where R 2 is a hydrogen atom, hydrogen an alkyl C 1-7 , alkoxy C 1-7 -alkyl C 1-7 , phenyl-alkyl C 1-7 , tetrahydropyranyl, alkanoyl C 1-6 , benzoyl, nitrobenzoyl, carboxy-alkanoyl C 1-6 , carboxybenzoyl, trifluoroacetyl or camphor sulphonyl, m is 1 or 2, as a racemate or optical enantiomer. The compounds I are prepared by decarboxylating the corresponding 4-indane carboxylic acid in dimethylsulphoxide by reaction with formaldehyde and a primary or secondary amine or salts thereof. The compounds III are prepared by refluxing the corresponding 4-indane carboxylic acid in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran or toluene with or without a mineral acid. 19-Norsteroids of the Formula IX are obtained from compounds of the Formula VIII where W is the remainder of a ketal moiety e.g. an alkylene residue by refluxing in a lower alkanol solvent with a mineral acid. The compounds VIII are derived by a series of reactions from the compounds I. |
