titleOfInvention Microbiological oxidation process
abstract 1,244,909. Oxidation by microorganisms. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 8 May, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 23554/69. Heading C2C. Microbiological oxidation of organic compounds such as alcohols to acids, is by aerobic cultivation of Flavobacterium oxydans (A.T.C.C. No. 21,245) in a nutrient medium containing the compound. Aliphatic, aromatic and alicyclic saturated or unsaturated alcohols or aldehydes in particular polyols e.g. pentaerythritol may be oxidized. Conventional substrates mineral salts, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur sources may be present and are listed. Examples describe the oxidation of pentaerythritol to tris- (hydroxymethyl)acetic acid.
