abstract 1,244,485. Olefin copolymers. INTERNATIONAL SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO. Ltd. 19 Dec., 1968 [21 Dec., 1967; 16 Oct., 1968], Nos. 58132/67 and 49100/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C2] As co-monomers for copolymerization with 1- olefines, use is made of addition products of (a) a carbene of the formula :CXY, in which X and Y are each hydrogen, halogen or an organic radical; and (b) a polyene of the formula CH 2 = CHR in which R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group of at least 5 carbon atoms containing at least two ethylenic linkages, not more than two of which are conjugated (see Division C2). The co-polymerization may be effected in the presence of catalysts, suitable catalysts being those described in Specifications 1,077,397, 1,113,898 and 1,231,195. In Example 2, an ethylene-propylene mixture is co-polymerized with the carbene adduct of 1,5,9-deoatriene in the presence of a catalyst comprising vanadium oxytrichloride, aluminium tribromide and lithium butyl. Other examples are given also. The products are sulphur-vulcanizable.
