titleOfInvention Tobacco products
abstract 1,244,068. Flavouring tobacco. H. F. & PH. F. REEMTSMA. 29 Sept., 1969 [30 Sept., 1968], No. 47780/69. Heading A2C. [Also in Division C2] Tobacco smoke flavour is influenced by the addition to tobacco, etc. of at least one pyrazine derivative having the general formula which each R is independently a hydrogen atom, or an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical with up to nine C atoms, or a heterocyclic radical with four to nine C atoms and a hetero atom. Thus, R may be H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , C 2 H 3 , C 3 H 7 , C 4 H 9 , C 5 H 11 , C 5 H 9 , C 6 H 5 , C 6 H 13 , C 7 H 15 , C 7 H 7 , C 4 H 3 O, C 5 H 5 O, C 6 H 7 O, or C 8 H 9 . Methods of preparing a number of suitable pyrazine derivatives are described, and their smoke flavouring effects indicated. The additives may be applied to tobacco by dipping or spraying, using a highly volatile solvent.
