titleOfInvention Depot medicaments in capsule form
abstract 1,242,547. Depot medicaments in capsule form. R. P. SCHERER, G.m.b.H. 7 Oct., 1968 [7 Oct., 1967], No. 47403/68. Heading A5B. A gelatin capsule (which may have been tanned with formalin) contains a depot medicament, comprising a solution or suspension (which is liquid or flowable at room temperature) of at least one physiologically active substance and at least one physiologically substance (which is also inert to gelatin) in a liquid vehicle, which is a liquid water-miscible substance and/or a liquid mixture of a waterimmiscible substance with a water-oil emulsifier or an auxiliary solvent, each physiologically inert substance forming a microporous spongy body when contacted with water or the juice of the gastro-intestinal tract. The physiologically inert substance(s) is insoluble or only gradually soluble in water or the juice of the gastro-intestinal tract, and may be a polyvinyl homopolymer or copolymer, a cellulose ether or shellac. Dicalcium phosphate may also be present. Numerous Examples are given.
