titleOfInvention Method for producing isoprene and apparatus therefor
abstract 1,242,353. Isoprene. TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO K.K. 22 Jan., 1970 [23 Jan., 1969], No. 3116/70. Heading C5E. Isoprene is prepared by reacting formaldehyde and isobutene in the gas phase in an apparatus comprising a series of reaction chambers linked in series each housing portions of the catalyst in fixed beds which have taken part in the reaction for different periods of time. Isoprene is recovered from the terminal reactor, and at intervals the terminal reactor containing older catalyst is disconnected from the series and fresh catalyst in another reactor connected to the other end of the series. Suitable catalysts are calcium phosphate and chromium oxidephosphoric acid. The reaction is preferably effected at 200-350‹ C. in about 5 reactors.
