titleOfInvention Flameproofed crystalline copolymers of propylene and ethylene
abstract 1,241,787. Flame-proof propylene copolymer compositions. HERCULES Inc. 17 March, 1970 [19 March, 1969], No. 12698/70. Heading C3P. Compositions comprise (1) a crystalline copolymer of propylene containing 7 to 25 weight per cent of ethylene and having a melt flow rate of less than 3, (2) a chlorinated flame-proofing compound containing at least 50 weight per cent of chlorine in amount to provide 11 to 16 weight per cent of chlorine in the composition, and (3) antimony oxide in amount of 10 to 25 weight per cent of the copolymer, the composition having a melt flow rate no higher than 2À2, a density no higher than 1.16 g./c.c. and a deflection temperature at least as high as the copolymer. Many suitable chlorinated compounds are listed and examples describe compositions comprising propylene/ethylene copolymers, antimony oxide and adducts of 2 moles of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with cyclo-octadiene, 3 moles of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with triacrylyl triazine and of 1 mole of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with tetrahydrophthalic anhydride.
