abstract 1,240,889. Aqueous catalysts. MARUZEN OIL CO. Ltd. 4 Dec., 1968, No. 57635/68. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] An aqueous catalyst consists of a solution of a Cl compound, a Pd compound and Fe 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , in which the Cl content of the solution is in the range 0.005-0.15g. atom per litre and the ratio of chemical equivalents of Cl to Pd in the solution is in the range 15:1 to 20:1. Specified Cl compounds include HCl, CoCl 2 , NiCl 2 , CrCl 2 , KCl, NaCl, CaCl 2 , BaCl 2 , SrCl 2 , monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, and acetyl chloride. Suitable Pd salts mentioned are sulphate, nitrate, chloride, potassium chloride and acetate. To prevent Fe(OH) 3 ppt, the catalyst solution is preferably made acidic by addition of mineral acid (.5-100 g./e.) e.g. H 2 SO 4 . Anti-corrosive material such as Ti, Ta, a synthetic resin, rubber, enamel, glass, porcelain or ceramic is preferably used the apparatus construction.
