titleOfInvention Diagnostic agent
abstract 1,240,884. Determination of glucose. FEINCHEMIE K. H. KALLIES K.G. 14 Oct., 1968, No. 48587/68. Heading B1X. A diagnostic agent for the detection of glucose in liquids, for example body fluids, comprises an absorbent carrier material which contains an enzyme having oxidase activity for glucose, peroxidase or inorganic compounds with a peroxidase action and a colour indicator which reacts with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of peroxidase, the carrier material being hydrophobed by an organosilicon compound of general formula: wherein R 1 -R 8 , which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals containing up to 6 carbon atoms or aryl radicals, and X is 20 to 40. The colour indicator may be o-tolidine, o-dianisidine, benzidine hydrochloride, guaiacol, a lenco dyestuff or phenylene-diamine. The carrier material may be paper, cardboard, natural or synthetic fibres or fabric. A carrier may be impregnated in adjacent zones 1-2mm apart with a glucose oxidase reagent, a pH determining reagent, and a urea peroxide and o-tolidine reagent for determination of peroxidase, for example as blood in urine. The hydrophobing agent may be applied before, during or after application of reagent components to the carrier material. If an emulsion of the silicone is used, the silicone is cross-linked in situ, for example using epoxy-resin. Methyl silicones are exemplified.
