abstract 1,238,389. Epichlorhydrin dithiocarbonate; cyclic sulphur compounds. ETHYLENEPLASTIQUE S.A. 11 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 60491/69. Heading C2C. Cyclic sulphur compounds, such as the novel epichlorhydrin dithiocarbonate, having an electronegative substituent on a carbon atom which does not form part of the ring are prepared by reacting an epoxy compound of the formula in which A is a halogen atom, a radical OR in which R is an alkyl or aryl radical, or a radical -N(R<SP>1</SP>)(R<SP>11</SP>) in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are alkyl or aryl radicals, and n is 1, 2 or 3, with carbon disulphide or oxysulphide at a temperature of less than 80‹ C. in the presence of a catalytic system comprising a xanthate or an alkali metal halide and water e.g. hydrated lithium bromide, and, optionally, in addition to the alkali metal halide a cocatalyst comprising a sulphide, thiocarbonate or sulphonium iodide. Examples describe the preparation of the episulphide and monothiocarbonate derivatives of 3-phenoxy-1- propene, 3 - phenoxy - 1,2 - propene, 3 - diethylamino - 1 - propene, and epichlorohydrin, as well as epichlorohydrin dithiocarbonate.
