titleOfInvention A-nor-estra-3(5),9-dien-2-ones, and processes for their preparation
abstract 1,235,534. A - nor - estra - 3,9 - dien - 2 - ones. ROUSSEL-UCLAF. 23 May, 1968 [29 May, 1967; 23 Aug., 1967], No. 52356/70. Divided out of 1,235,532. Heading C2C. Novel A-nor-steroids of the formula (wherein OR is a free, esterified or etherified hydroxy group; and R<SP>2</SP> is H or an alkyl group) are prepared by cyclizing by the action of an alkaline agent seco-steroids of the formula (wherein OR is as above, R<SP>2</SP> is alkyl only) and, when required, hydrolysing the products with an acid to give compounds wherein R<SP>2</SP> is H. In this hydrolysis an esterified hydroxy group OR may also be hydrolysed, and the products must then be separated by known methods. The starting materials of Formula III comprise the subject-matter of Specification 1,235,533.
