abstract 1,234,657. Olefine polymerization. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 11 Oct., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 48227/68. Heading C3P. Olefines are polymerized at 10‹ to 150‹ C. and at 0À5 to 100 atmospheres using a catalyst system comprising (a) a catalyst component consisting of a complex compound of a titanium (III) halide and an aluminium halide, (b) an organoaluminium compound, and optionally, (c) an organozinc compound, said system being modified by a phosphorous compound of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP> denote hydrogen atoms or identical or different alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkylamino, aralkylamino or arylamino groups, the modification being carried out by grinding 1-50% of the phosphorous compound or compounds with (a), and then adding the remaining phosphorous compound or compounds without grinding. In the examples, (1) propylene is polymerized in an organic solvent using a catalyst system comprising 3TiCl 3 .AlCl 3 (ground with hexamethyl phosphoric triamide, tri - n - butyl- or triphenylphosphine oxide), an ethyl aluminium, tri - butyl phosphine, hexamethyl phosphoric triamide, and optionally hydrogen, the product, which is precipitated with methanol being insoluble in n-heptane, (2) propylene or butene-1 is bulk polymerized using the catalyst system of (1) which optionally includes diethyl zinc, the product being insoluble in n-heptane.
