abstract | 1,234,072. Dyeing with polymerisable dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 18104/68. Heading D1B. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Fibrous materials and polymeric films are dyed by treating with a solution or suspension of an azo, anthraquinone, diarylmethane, triarylmethane, nitro, methane, xanthane, azine, arazine or thiazine dyestuff and simultaneously or subsequently with a free radical generator, the dyestuff containing two or more groups of the formula I: in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each independantly represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, an alkyl radical containing at least two carbon atoms or an aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, aryloxy, substituted aryloxy, arylthio, substituted arylthio, acyloxy, substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, cyano, carboxylic acid or carboxylic ester radical provided not more than two of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen and having been obtained by reacting a compound containing the said group and a functional group reactive towards a primary or secondary amino group, a hydroxy group or a carboxylic acid group with a dyestuff of one of the said classes or an intermediate therefore containing primary or secondary amino groups or hydroxyl or carboxylic acid groups. Preferably the groups are of formula -CR 1 =CH 2 and -CH=CHR 2 in which R 1 is chlorine, bromine, fluorine, alkoxy, cyano, carboxyl, carboalkoxy, alkyl, substituted ,alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or acyloxy, R 2 is carboxyl or carboalkoxy. The free radical generator is preferably cured in an amount of 1-500% by weight based on the weight of the dyestuff. Substrates include nylon 6, cotton, viscose and cuproammonium rayon, cellulose acetate wool, silk, mohair, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile and polyurethanes. |
