abstract 1,233,929. Winding up yarns. UNIROYAL, Inc. 3 Dec., 1968 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 57310/68. Heading D1J. [Also in Divisions A4 and B8] The yarns 32 a - d, comprising substantially untwisted multi-filament yarns are passed through a bath 16 to impregnate them with a polymeric binder in an amount, on a dry basis, equal to at least ten per cent by weight of said yarns; the yarns are then brought together in a side-by-side substantially coplanar relationship with their adjacent edges touching, for example by the traversing member 28, and thereafter the resulting ribbon 38 is wound, while the yarns are still wet, onto a core 30. The resulting package is then dried to cause the binder to bond the yarns to one another at their edges to form said ribbon and to bond adjacent layers of said ribbon to one another, the binder being such that the outermost ribbon layer is readily strippable from the layer immediately thereunder. The yarns may pass through a tensioning device 26. The bath 16 may contain an aqueous resorcinol-formaldehyde rubber latex and the amount of polymeric binder impregnating the yarns is preferably from 12 to 15 per cent by weight of the yarns, on a dry basis. The filaments of the yarns 32 a - d may be biconstituent filaments of polyamide and polyester. The biconstituent filaments may be made up of nylon and polyethylene terephthalate.
