In a magnetic tape comprising a support bearing a dispersion of magnetic particles in a binder, the binder consists essentially of (1) a film-forming polymer non-reactive to isocyanate groups and (2) a polyisocyanate based elastomer which has been formed by reaching a butadieneacrylonitrile-acrylic acid copolymer with a compound containing free isocyanate groups e.g. a diisocyanate. Specified supports are polyvinylchloride, cellulose acetate and polyethylene terephthalate; specified film-forming polymers are cellulose acetate, acetate-butyrate or nitrate, polyvinyl chloride-acetate, and vinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile copolymer. The coated support is preferably maintained at elevated temperature e.g. 35-45‹ C. for at least 8 hours. In an example, an orientated polyethylene terephthalate support is coated with a dispersion of acicular γ-Fe 2 O 3 particles in a methyl ethyl ketone solution of vinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile, butadiene-acrylonitrileacrylic acid, and a diisocyanate. The binder is cured at 40‹ C.
