abstract 1,229,732. Steroid alkylsulphonates. JENAPHARM VEB. 11 March, 1969, No. 12743/69. Heading C2U. [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of Formulµ I, II and III wherein R 1 is C 2-8 alkyl, R 2 is H or Cl and R 3 is H or Me; and their preparation from the corresponding steroid alcohols or phenols by reaction with R 1 -SO 2 -X (X=halogen) in the presence of a sterically hindered amine, e.g. triethylamine, 2,6 - dimethylpyridine, 2,4,6 - trimethylpyridine or bis(trimethylsilyl)amine. Compounds I are alternatively prepared obtained from the corresponding 17# - trimethylsiloxy compounds by treatment with methanolic HCl. The 3 - (2 - propanesulphonate), the 3 - (butanesulphonate) and the 3 - (octanesulphonate) of 17α - ethynyl - 17# - trimethylsiloxy - 1,3,5(10)- estratrien - 3 - ol are prepared from the parent 3-ol by reaction with an appropriate sulphonyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine or 2,4,6 - trimethylpyridine.
