1,229,482. Polycarbonate films and fibres. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 8 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11502/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Films and fibres are made from a copolycarbonate of bis-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) sulphone and another dihydroxy compound (especially bis-phenol A). The films are prepared by casting a hot tetrachloroethane solution of the polycarbonate and may be heattreated at 250‹ C. for 10 hours. The fibres may be produced by wet spinning a methylene chloride solution of the polycarbonate into a methanol spin bath and drying the fibre at 100‹ C. for about 24 hours. The resultant fibre may be drawn over a hot stage at temperatures of 190-290‹ C. at draw ratios 3-5:1 to give fibres 27À9-19À5 denier with elongation at room temperature of 22À5-64À0%. |
