[Also in Divisions C3 and C4] Schiff bases are obtained by reacting salicylaldehyde or substitution products thereof with aniline or a substitution product thereof. In the examples various allyl salicylidene anilines were prepared by reacting 3-allylsalicylaldehyde with aniline, 2,4-dimethylaniline, ochloro-aniline, o-iodoaniline, 2,4-dichloroaniline, 2,4-dibromoaniline, 3,4,5-trichloroaniline, and 2,4,6-trichloroaniline. The process may be carried out in the presence or absence of solvent and the product may be oily or crystalline. |
