abstract | 1,225,958. Detergent alkylate. ATLANTIC KICHFIELD CO. 30 Jan., 1969 [12 April, 1968], No. 5263/69. Heading C5E. Detergent alkylates are produced by alkylating an aromatic hydrocarbon, particularly benzene, with C 9-18 chloroparaffins in the presence of an AlClg catalyst and under a hydrogen chloride pressure of 5-50 psig. The AlCl 3 catalyst is suitably in the form of a complex with benzene or alkylate product, and its activity may be increased by addition of fresh AlCl 3 or metallic Al. The chloroparafiins may be a mixture of chlorinated C 9-18 paraffins containing 80-95% monochlorides and the remainder di- and poly-chlorides. The HCl may be that formed in situ. |
