1,224,664. Brightening textiles. CIBA GEIGY A.G. 18 April, 1968 [21 April, 1967], No. 18451/68. Heading D1P [Also in Division C2] Textile materials, particularly synthetic textiles are optically brightened .by treatment with a compound of formula where G is the residue from an aldehyde of aromatic character after removal of the carbonyl oxygen, A 1 is a hetero-cyclic ring system which (a) contains at least one 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic ring having at least one ring oxygen and/or sulphur atom, (b) is free of ring nitrogen atoms and of hydrogen atoms replaceable by alkali metal atoms, and (c) is bonded by a ring carbon atom adjacent to a heteroatom to a ring carbon atom of B 1 , or has two adjacent ring carbon atoms in common with two adjacent ring carbon atoms of B 1 , one of the common carbon atoms being adjacent a heteroatom, B 1 is a benzene ring which is free of hydrogen atoms replaceable by alkali metal atoms, optionally having one or more aromatic, heterocyclic or hydroaromatic 5- or 6-membered ring condensed thereon, v is 1 or 2, and m is 1 to 4 when A 1 and B 1 are connected by a single bond, or 1 or 2 when A 1 and B 1 have two common carbon atoms. |
