1,224,500. Corrosion inhibiting composition. DAUBERT CHEMICAL CO. 14 Oct., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967], No. 48518/68. Headings C5F and C5G. [Also in Division C7] A corrosion inhibiting composition for protecting ferrous and non-ferrous metals comprises a volatile aliphatic nitro-compound, at least one volatile aromatic nitro-compound, a heterocyclic amine and a non-volatile contact inhibitor, the aliphatic and aromatic nitrocompounds comprising 2-98% by wt. of the composition. An inert carrier such as a lubricating oil, kerosene, gasoline or other hydrocarbon may be present. The heterocyclic amine is preferably a triazole. The contact inhibitor may be an ester of a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycerol mono-oleate, glycerol mono-laurate and sorbitan dilaurate; an alkylated sulphonic acid metal salt; a higher fatty ester of an alkanolamine; or a higher MW fatty acid imidazoline or oxaline. An antioxidant such as 2,6 - di - t - butyl - p - cresol may be present. Preferred nitro-compounds are 2-nitropropane, nitrobenzene and m-dinitrobenzene. |
