titleOfInvention Surfactants
abstract 1,220,476. Polymers of unsaturated surfaceactive sulpho-esters. BOHM & HAAS CO. 13 March, 1968 [20 March, 1967], No. 12227/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C2] Surface-active sulpho-esters of formula where m is 2, 3 or 4, n is 1 or 2, R is a C 1-22 alkyl radical, a radical of structure where x is 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10, or a radical of formula where z is an integer from 1 to 40 and Y is -S(O 2 )OM, where M is hydrogen or an alkali metal are homo- or co-polymerized. The polymerization may take place in aqueous emulsion to give a stable latex in a single step or a plurality of stages in the presence or absence of a catalyst. Copolymerizable compounds are styrene compounds, the ethylenically unsaturated acids and derivatives such as acrylic and methacrylic acids, salts, esters, nitriles, amides and anhydrides, maleic esters, maleic anhydride, maleic acid polyesters, unsaturated alcohol esters, unsaturated ketones and ethers, vinyl halides, vinylidene halides, vinyl carbazole and dienes. In an example a latex of a sulpho-ester copolymer is neutralized with KOH and pigmented with TiO 2 .
