titleOfInvention | Process for the manufacture of esters of carboxylic acids |
abstract | 1,219,510. Carboxylic acid esters. MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd., and T. KUNUGI. 18 March, 1968 [18 March, 1967; 27 March, 1967], No. 13001/68. Heading C2C. Carboxylic acid esters are prepared by oxidizing by means of molecular oxygen (defined) at least one saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or aromatic, primary alcohol, one or more such primary alcohol mixed with one or more other alcohol, phenol and/or aldehyde, or at least one aldehyde mixed with one or more phenol or alcohol other than a primary alcohol at a temperature of from 0‹ to 300‹ C. and a pressure of from 1 to 300 atmospheres, in the presence of, as catalyst, of one of the metals ruthenium, rhodium, platinum and palladium, or an oxide (defined) of such a metal, or a pretreated product (defined) of such a metal or oxide, the catalyst being supported on a carrier. Suitable catalyst supports are active carbon, silica, alumina and diatomaceous earth. Examples describe the preparation of esters of a wide range of mono- and di-hydric alcohols. |
