Novel α - nicotinoyl - # - (substitutedphenyl)-ethylene compounds of Formula (I) in which R is hydroxy, C 1-4 alkoxy, halogen or nitro and R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, hydroxy or C 1-4 alkoxy, are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula (II) with 3-acetyl-pyridine, preferably in an inert solvent and in the presence of a basic condensation agent. Pharmaceutical compositions having coronarydilatory, antibiotic and germicidal activity, comprise a compound of Formula (I) together with a carrier.
