titleOfInvention Explosives
abstract 1,216,374. Explosive compositions. COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP. 23 Jan., 1968 [24 Jan., 1967], No. 3401/68. Heading C1D. . An-explosive-sensitizer composition comprises a-mixtm'e of an impact-sensitive liquid.nitrated aliphatic polyol and trimethylolethane trinitrate, the mixture being supported on a solid carrier. The nitrated polyol may be nitroglycerine or ethylene glycol -dinitrate, and the mixture may be prepared by conitration of a mixture of trimethylolethane and glycerine or ethylene glycol. The liquid mixture may be sorbed on an inert .material, e.g. ;kieselguhr, charcoal, or ''fuller's earth, or on an oxidizing -agent or fuel. The explosive composition may "also contain additional ,-sensitizers, e.g. ;PETN, TNT, 2,4,6 - -trinitrophenylnitroamineethyl nitrate, dipentaerythritol hexanitrate, manniltol or sorbitol hexanitrate, -sucrose octanitrate, nitrostarch, RDX, dinitrotoluene, and tetryl. .Inorganic oxidizing salts,. e:g: ammonium nitrate 'and - alkali metal and .alkaline ½earth metal nitrates, chlorates, and,.perchlorates, may also -be. present. The composition can contain a metallic fuel, e.g. aluminium, ferrosilicon, or .ferrophosphorus, or a carbonaceous fuel, e:g. .powdered coal or :coke, petroleum oil, bagasse, dextrine, starch, wood meal, wheat flour, bran, or pecan meal. Suitable stabilizers are - zinc oxide, ethyl centralite, diphenylamine, carbazole, calcium carbonate, aluminium-oxide, .and sodium carbonate. In - examples, the ingredients specified in--addition -to the. nitrated, mixture are ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, ZnO, wheat .flour, and atomized aluminium. The compositions are useful as dynamite explosives and. for. filling .detonating fuses.
