abstract | 1,216,350. Gas filter. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO. Inc. 22 Dec., 1967 [23 Dec., 1966], No. 58414/67. Heading B1T. [Also in Division D1] A gas filter is made up of at least one pair of vacuum-moulded sheets (Fig. 2, not shown) of rigid material with opposed furrows formed therein, which form a row of elongated pockets between each pair of sheets when the sheets are welded together, the edges 22 of sheet pairs at the inlet end of the filter being turned over and possibly welded to form a composite structure whose edges may be clamped in place in a housing (Fig. 1, not shown) by separate frames (9, 10). The sheets are stored separately and built up as required. Mouths 18 opening into each pocket have converging portions 23. The sheet material comprises 15-25% phenolic resin and a fibrous mixture which is made up of 15-30% heat-bondable fibres, such as polyester or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with acryloritrile or vinyl acetate, of diameter 16 to 20Á, 20-45% non- heat-bonding fibres such as nylon, Orlon or Dacron (Trade Marks), of diameter 10 to 60Á and 25-50% cellulosic fibre, such as cotton, wood pulp or alpha-cellulose, of diameter 10 to 20Á. The fibres do not exceed # inch in length. |
