titleOfInvention | Separating phthalonitriles from reaction gases containing the same |
abstract | 1,215,238. Phthalonitriles. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 2 May, 1968 [6 May, 1967], No. 20863/68. Heading C2C. The invention comprises a process for separating one or more phthalonitriles while at the same time removing by-products from a reaction gas which contains one or more phthalonitriles, which is at 180-480‹ C., and which has been obtained in the synthesis of phthalonitriles, by quenching the hot reaction gas with a coolant boiling above 40‹ C., wherein the coolant is supplied at 40-200‹ C. but below the temperature of the reaction gas to be quenched and the ratio of coolant to the amount of gas to be quenched is adjusted so that a temperature below the boiling point of the coolant is maintained by evaporation of a portion of the coolant. Suitable coolants are water, xylene, kerosene, nitrobenzene, trichlorobenzene, tolunitrile and benzonitrils. |
