titleOfInvention | Foam control process |
abstract | 1,215,004. Foam control process. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 6 March, 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 8380/67. Heading C3T. The formation of foam in aqueous media is suppressed by contact with an organosilicon polymer containing at least two organosiloxane units and in which at least one of the silicon bonded organic substituents comprises a group: RO(CH 2 CH 2 O)y, wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, a triorganosilyl radical or an acyl radical; y = 2, 3 or 4. The polymer may contain 1À95-2À2 organic substituents per silicon atom and the polyoxyethylene groups may comprise 20-80% by weight of the polymer. The polymer may comprise units: RO(CH 2 CH 2 O) y Si(R<SP>1</SP>)O- in which R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl radical, e.g. methyl. These units may be copolymerized with dihydrocarbon siloxane units, e.g. dimethylsiloxane units. The polymer may have a finely divided silica dispersed therein. The polymers may be prepared by reacting an organopolysiloxane containing silicon bonded hydrogen with a monoether of a di-, tri- or tetra-ethylene glycol (see, e.g., Specifications 842,674 and 954,041). |
