titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to a process for the production of fibre- and film-forming polyesters |
abstract | 1,214,979. Polyesters. CHEMIEFASER LENZING A.G. 19 Dec., 1967 [22 Dec., 1966], No. 57674/67. Heading C3R. In the manufacture of film- and fibre-forming polyesters by reacting a dicarboxylic acid or alkyl ester thereof with a glycol and polycondensing the resulting product, the polycondensation catalyst is carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is passed through or over the reaction mixture during the whole of the polycondensation reaction or at the beginning only and the rate of flow is such as to maintain a carbon dioxide pressure of up to 1 mm. Hg. Before the polycondensation starts, carbon dioxide may be passed through the reaction mixture until the latter is saturated. Examples describe the manufacture of polyesters from ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate or a mixture thereof with dimethyl isophthalate. |
