A storage container for liquid (e.g. liquefied gas) comprises an inner vessel 24 (e.g. of Aluminium) surrounded by and spaced from an outer vessel 10 (e.g. of mild steel). Each vessel having a vertical side wall 28, 14 and a roof 30, 16, the space between the side walls containing a resilient layer 40, 42 in contact with each sidewall, and the space 46 between being filled with a thermal insulation (e.g. penlite, expanded vermiculite, granulated cork, foamed polystyrene, shredded wood, fiber-glass waste, or mineral wool). The layers 40, 42 may comprise sheets of matted glassfibres, of diameter less than 0À00015 inches bonded by a thin film of phenol-formaldehyde resin binder, to form a blanket having a density of approximately 2 lb./cu. ft.
