titleOfInvention A process for the polymerisation of ethylene
abstract 1,213,416. Polymerizing ethylene. IMHICO A.G. 2 Aug., 1968 [2 Aug., 1967], No. 36970/68. Heading C3P. Ethylene is polymerized in tubular reactors at pressures of at least 800 atmospheres and temperatures not exceeding 400‹ C., optionally in the presence of comonomers and/or chain transfer agents, by a process in which catalystfree ethylene is introduced into the reactor at one or more inlets, said ethylene being at a temperature below that of the reaction mixture at said inlet or inlets, and a normally solid or liquid catalyst, optionally in a carrier liquid, is added to the reaction mixture at one or more inlets at which the temperature of the reaction mixture is above the temperature at which polymerization is initiated. An example describes the polymerization of ethylene using as catalyst lauroyl peroxide dissolved in a mixture of benzene and cyclohexane.
