titleOfInvention Production of aromatic thioamides
abstract 1,212,077. Thioamides. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 29 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 15103/68. Heading C2C. Aromatic thioamides are prepared by reacting aromatic compounds containing one or more groups CH 2 X, in which X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, directly attached to the aromatic nucleus with sulphur and ammonia or a primary or secondary amine, in the presence of an additional acid-binding agent or an excess of ammonia or amine. The aromatic compounds are mononuclear or polynuclear cyclic compounds having up to 18 carbon atoms and may contain hetero atoms. In addition to the group(s) CH 2 X, they may contain other substituents which are inert under the reaction conditions. Suitable starting materials are, for example, benzyl chloride, bromide and iodide; 2,6 - dichlorobenzyl chloride; 4-methoxybenzyl chloride; 1 - chloromethyl naphthalene; 2- chloromethyl anthracene; 1 - bromomethylphenanthrene; 4 - chloromethyl diphenyl; 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bis - (chloromethyl) - diphenyl; 4 - chloromethyl pyridine; 2 - chloromethyl quinoline; 2 - bromomethyl thiophene and 2 - chloromethyl phenazine. Suitable acid-binding agents are the oxides, hydroxides, alcoholates arid phenates of the alkali and alkali earth metals. Examples are given of the preparation of N- cyclohexylthiobenzamide, N - benzylthiobenzamide, N - pentamethylenefchipbenzamide, thiobenzamide, p - carboxy - N - cyclohexylthiobenzamide and N-cyclohexylthiobenzamide.
