titleOfInvention | Polymerisation of ethylene |
abstract | 1,211,287. Ethylene polymerization. MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 56568/68. Heading C3P. Olefin polymers are prepared by polymerizing in a solvent using a catalyst consisting of (i) solid particles of magnesium carbonate (including basic magnesium carbonate) having chemically bound thereto a titanium and or vanadium halide and (ii) on organoaluminium compound and or a dialkyl zinc. The magnesium carbonate may have a particle size of 1-70 microns. In the Examples, (1) magnesium carbonate and titanium tetrachloride are reacted to form component (i) and this, with tri-isobutyl or triethyl aluminium, is used to continuously polymerize ethylene in hexane in the presence of hydrogen, (2) as (1) except that component (ii) is triethyl aluminium and this catalyst system is used to copolymerize ethylene with butene or propylene, and (3) as (1) except that (i) is formed by reacting magnesium carbonate with titanium tetrabromide, ethoxy titanium trichloride, diisobutoxy titanium dichloride, vanadium tetrachloride, or vanadium oxytrichloride, and (ii) is diethyl aluminium chloride, triethyl aluminium, diethyl zinc, ethyl aluminium sesquichloride or ethyl aluminium ethoxy chlorides. |
