abstract | 1,211,147. Splitting rocks. TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO - KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT PODZEMNOGO I SHAKHTNOGO STROITELSTVA. 6 June, 1968, No. 27024/68. Heading B5E. [Also in Divisions B3, C1 and E1] An explosion apparatus employing a liquid explosive having a fuel component and an oxidizer fired as a mixture by a liquid initiator, comprises a head having at least one fuel channel 12, at least one oxidizer channel 11 and at least one initiator channel 13, wherein at least one of the fuel channels 12 or the oxidizer channels 11 converges with the initiator channel or channels 13 inside the head to form a common outlet 20. The apparatus may be used for destroying rocks or explosive forming in a liquid. The oxidizer may be nitrogen tetroxide, nitric acid or tetranitromethane, the fuel kerosene, benzene, aniline or toluene, and the initiator a eutectic alloy of potassium and sodium or hydrazine. In the example, the fuel channel 12 converges with the initiator channel 13 at an orifice 17 which is controlled by a valve 18 operated by a drive 19. The channel 11 opens into an annular recess 21 connected by inclined passages 22 with the end of the head. The oxidizer and fuel are supplied continuously and the initiator periodically under control of the valve 18, the operation time of which should be shorter than the elapsed time from the start of delivery of the initiator to the moment of explosion. In general, nitrobenzene cannot be used to protect the nozzle 17. |
