[Also in Division C6] The following yeasts are aerobically cultivated in a culture medium initially containing 0À8% or 1À5% of methanol as a main carbon source, to produce yeast cells and the specified chemical substances: (1) Pichia pastoris CBS 704 (L-glutamic acid, L-lysine and α-ketoglutaric acid); (2) Hansenula wickerhamii NRRL YB-4943 (L-glutamic acid, L-threonine, alanine, citric acid and trace amounts of fumaric acid); (3) Pichia haplophyla CBS 2028 (L-glutamic acid, L-valine and citric acid); and (4) Candida parapsilosis IFO 0585 (hypoxanthine). Alternatively, the methanol may be added gradually at the rate at which it is consumed. |
