titleOfInvention Process for replacing aromatically bonded halogen by hydrogen
abstract 1,210,529. Halogenated carbocyclic and heterocyclic aromatic compounds. CONSORTIUM FUR ELEKTROCHEMISCHE INDUSTRIE G.m.b.H. 4 June, 1968 [5 June, 1966], No. 26463/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C1] The replacement by hydrogen atoms of halogen atoms bonded to carbon atoms which form part of a polyhalogenated aromatic ring to give an aromatic compound containing at least one halogen atom bonded to a carbon atom of the aromatic ring is effected by reacting the aromatic polyhalogen compound with a telluride of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or ammonia in the presence of an alcohol and/or water. The aromatic polyhalogen compounds may be carbocyclic or heterocyclic and mononuclear or polynuclear. Preferably, at most one carbon atom of the ring system carries a hydrogen atom, a phenoxy group or a piperidino group. Specified aromatic ring systems are benzene, naphthalene, thiophene and selenophene.
