titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of a low-sulphur oil |
abstract | 1,209,870. Desulphurizing oils. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 6 June, 1969, No. 28807/69. Addition to 1,160,186. Heading C5E. An improvement in or modification of the process for the preparation of a low-sulphur oil from a high-sulphur residual oil according to Specification 1,160,186 comprises separating a high-sulphur residual oil into asphaltenes and a deasphaltenized oil, separating the deasphaltenized oil into resins and a deasphaltenized and deresinized oil, catalytically hydrodesulphirizing the deasphaltenized and deresinized oil to obtain a hydrodesulphurized oil, and back-blending the hydrodesulphurized oil with at least part of the resins and at least a part of the asphaltenes. The asphaltenes may be precipitated from the residual oil by means of ethyl ether, a mixture of benzene and ethyl alcohol, or a C 5 to C 10 hydrocarbon or mixture such as n-pentane or petroleum naphtha. The resins may be removed by adsorption on fuller's earth, activated alumina or silica and subsequent desorption with benzene, or extracted from the oil by a phenolic solvent and recovered by distillation, or precipitated from the oil by means of methane, ethane, propane, n-butane or isobutane. The hydrodesulphurization catalyst may be cobalt molybdate. |
