titleOfInvention Device for improving climatic conditions by means of an electric direct-current field
abstract 1,206,983. Lamps. C. G. VON BERKHEIM. 20 Dec., 1967 [24 Dec., 1966], No. 57968/67. Heading F4R. [Also in Division A5] A device for improving climatic conditions, e.g. in a room or vehicle, comprises at least one electrode able to apply a direct-current field, and a substance which emits electrons at ambient temperature so as to produce ions, the substance being disposed in the region of the electrode in such a manner that the substance or its immediate environment is exposed to the influence of the electric direct-current field. One embodiment comprises a portable standard lamp provided with two fluorescent light tubes 13 between which is an electrode 3 and two electrically insulating coverings 8 having grooves 11 containing metal strips 12 impregnated with radio-active tritium which emits beta-particles. The beta-particles ionize the ambient air and either the positive or the negative ions are then held by the electrode 3 depending as to whether the electrode is maintained negative or positive.
