A copolymer of (A) 40-99.9 parts by weight butadiene, (B) 0.5-5 parts by weight divinyl benzene, and (c) 0-59.9 parts by weight acrylonitrile wherein (A) + (B) + (C) = 100 is stabilized by the incorporation therein of a phenolic compound of formula wherein R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl, C 5-9 cycloalkyl or C 7-12 aralkyl radicals and X is -CH 2 OCH 2 -, -CH 2 SCH 2 -, or -CR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>- wherein R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are hydrogen or C 1-7 alkyl radicals and the sum of carbon atoms in R<SP>4</SP> + R<SP>5</SP> is 0-7, or of formula wherein R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl, C 5-9 cycloalkyl or C 7-12 aralkyl radicals, n<SP>1</SP> is 0 or 1 and Y<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl.
