[Also in Divisions C2 and C3 Hardening agents for hydrophilic colloids containing active H atoms, particularly gelatine are unquarternised ether amines containing a grouping of formula RO-CH 2 -N-R 1 and at least one other grouping of formula RO-CH 2 -N#, in which R and R 1 are each alkyl or alkylene. Specified ether amines are 3-isobutoxymethyl oxazolidine, 3- alkylmethyl tetrahydro-1, 3-oxazine, (5-methyl)- and (5-hydroxymethyl)-3, 7-dioxa-1-azabicyclo [3, 3] octane, N, N-bis (isobutoxymethyl) methylamine, 1, 4-bis (n-butoxymethyl) piperazine and compounds of formula: R 2 OCH 2 N(R 3 )-(CH 2 ) n -N(R 3 ) CH 2 OR> 2 in which R 2 and R 3 are C 1-4 alkyl and n is 2-10. Preferably an aqueous dispersion of a solution of the ether amine in an organic solvent is used in an amount of 1-5 wt. per cent of ether amine based on the gelatine.
