titleOfInvention 9,11-epoxy-13-alkylgona-1,3,5(10)-trien-8-ols, 11-oxygenated-13-alkylgona-1,3,5(10),8-tetraenes and related compounds
abstract 1,202,914. Gona -1,3,5(10) - trienes and -1,3, 5(10),8 - tetraenes. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 5 Oct., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966; 9 Nov., 1966; 8 May, 1967], No. 45472/67. Heading C2U. [Also in Division A5] Novel 9, 11 - epoxy - 13 - alkylgona - 1,3,5(10)- trien - 8 - ols are prepared by epoxidation of 13 - alkylgona - 1,3,5(10),8 - tetraenes or of 13 - alkylgona - 1,3,5(10),9(11) - tetraen - 8 - ols, and are converted under acidic conditions to 13 - alkylgona - 1,3,5(10),8 - tetraen - 11 - ones (most of which are novel), or, at elevated temperatures, to the corresponding novel 14# - epimers, also produced by epimerization of the 14α - compounds with acid or base. These tetraene products can be selectively reduced to the corresponding 1,3,5(10) - trienes (which are novel when they are 14# - compounds) before or after conversion to other 11-oxygenated compounds e.g. ketals or ols or their acylatos, if desired? In the tetraene or triene products a 17-OH group may be oxidized, esterified or etherified or a 17-oxo group may be reduced, ketalized, thioketalized or reacted with an organo-metallic reagent (to introduce an organic group at position -17 trans to the 13 - alkyl group with consequent formation of a 17-OH group cis to the 13 - alkyl group) or a 17 - ester group may be hydrolysed or a 17-ether group may be de-etherified, or a 17-ketalized or - thioketalized oxo group may be hydrolysed to a keto group. A11 these steriods may have the normal d- or the enantiomeric l-configuration or may be mixtures thereof e.g. racemates. Specification 1,196,643 is referred to.
