abstract 1,202,590. Polyolefin compositions. DART INDUSTRIES Inc. 24 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 19661, No. 53610/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions D1-D2] Compositions comprise (1) a crystalline propylene polymer or propylene/ethylene copolymer and 1 to 20 weight per cent of (2) an oxygenated polyethylene metal complex which comprises (a) an oxidized polyethylene containing 0À2 to 7À5 weight per cent of chemically combined oxygen and (b) 0À2 to 50 weight per cent of a complexing agent which is a metal salt of an inorganic acid, a metal salt of a fatty acid containing at least 8 carbon atoms, a metal chelate or mixture thereof. The oxygenated polyethylene may be prepared by treating particulate solid, film or pressurized suspension of polyethylene in water or an organic liquid with air or oxygen-enriched air. The compositions may be moulded or extruded to form fibres, films, tubes, waste baskets and bottles, and may be dyed. Many suitable complexing agents including compounds of calcium, magnesium, beryllium, aluminium, titanium, vanadium, chromium, iron, cobalt, nickel, zirconium, tin, lead, zinc, copper and cadmium are listed, and examples describe compositions of polypropylene and complexes of oxidized polyethylene with (2) chromium trichloride and (3) aluminium monostearate.
