abstract | 1,202,118. Polymerization of butadiene. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 12 Nov., 1968 [15 Dec., 19671, No. 53480/68. Heading C3P. Butadiene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (1) an organometallic compound in which the metal is from Group I, II or III of the Periodic. System, (2) a nickel and/or cobalt compound which is a salt of carboxylic acid, an organic complex of nickel or cobalt, or a carbonyl of nickel or cobalt, (3) boron trifluoride or a complex thereof with an electron donating compound, and (4) carbon disulphide. Polymers prepared using this catalyst have a high molecular weight and a high cis-1,4 content. In the examples, butadiene is polymerized in benzene in the presence of a catalyst comprising carbon disulphide, triethyl aluminium, nickel octanoate and a complex of boron trifluoride with diethyl ether, phenol, benzaldehyde or benzophenone. |
